Moshi Kids Centre
Moshi Kids Centre was established because too many children in Moshi — especially in the Pasua area — were growing up without access to early education, regular meals, school materials, or a safe place to learn and play. Poverty, family hardship, and lack of early childhood opportunities meant many children started primary school already behind, or never attended at all. Zara Charity, under the leadership of founder Zainab Ansell (Mama Zara), recognised this urgent need and created a dedicated centre to give vulnerable children a real chance.
The Centre supports underprivileged, marginalised, and at-risk children (including orphans and those from very low-income families). It provides a holistic package of care so that children can learn, grow, and develop with dignity.
What the children receive:
- Education — Free early childhood education (typically ages 3–6) focused on literacy, numeracy, English, and school readiness, delivered in a nurturing classroom environment.
- Meals and nutrition — Nutritious daily meals (often the most consistent food some children receive), helping combat malnutrition and improve concentration.
- School materials — Uniforms, stationery, books, backpacks, and other essential learning supplies.
- Development and opportunities — Safe recreational space, emotional support, mentorship, life skills, and a clear pathway into primary school and beyond. The Centre aims for children to complete primary, secondary, and eventually higher education, with some returning later as volunteers.
Genuine impact and success stories: Over 800 children have been supported. Many have successfully transitioned into primary school better prepared and more confident than their peers. Recent classroom expansions (including new classrooms opened in early 2025) have increased capacity significantly — moving from a small start with one classroom toward serving around 100 children at a time. One group has already graduated into primary school with full supplies. Parents also benefit, gaining more freedom to work while knowing their children are safe and cared for. The Centre continues to produce children who stay in school longer and carry hope for the future.
